Localizing Oracle BI Presentation Services

The Oracle BI Presentation Catalog stores objects that users create, such as analyses and dashboards. Text strings hold the names and descriptions of these objects. We need to export the text strings from the catalog so that they can be translated then expose the strings when translation is complete.

The export process creates one XML file for every first-level subfolder in the shared folder, in the format foldernamecaptions.xml, where folder name is the name of the subfolder in the shared folder. Each XML file contains the text strings for all content in the corresponding first-level folder and its subfolders. We need to follow the encoding that is specified at the top of the XML file and that you escape special characters as appropriate.

For example, if the shared folder in the Oracle BI Presentation Catalog contains the first-level folders Marketing, Service, and Sales, then the export process creates three XML files:

After the content is translated, you place these folders in their corresponding location in the following directory:

ORACLE_INSTANCE\bifoundation\OracleBIPresentationServicesComponent\coreapplication_obipsn\msgdb\l_xx\captions

Their content loads when the service for Oracle BI Presentation Services starts.

1.       Highlighted types of components can be translated into other language:

Open catalog in online or offline mode and export and save the captions for dashboard and reports for translation
